A charming hamlet in the Town of Schroon, Schroon Lake is all about the outdoors – and so much more. The hamlet’s location in the Adirondacks guarantees no shortage of breathtaking views and nature adventures. On top of all that, Schroon Lake also boasts a rich arts and culture scene, amazing pubs and restaurants, and quaint shops with one-of-a-kind finds.

      The outdoors

Spanning a length of nine miles, the hamlet’s namesake lake offers numerous outdoor activities, such as fishing, paddling, boating, canoeing, and more. At the northern end of the lake is the Schroon Lake Town Beach, a sandy beach with a roped-in swimming area open during the summer.

Schroon Lake also boasts a host of activities away from the water. There are numerous scenic trails to explore, including the trails on Mount Severance and along Spectacle Pond, as well as the Hoffman Notch Trail. The nearby Natural Stone Bridge and Caves Park is a must visit for spelunkers and natural history enthusiasts, while climbers will love conquering the heights of the Pharaoh Mountain.

For a more laidback activity, you can go for a round of golf at Schroon Lake Golf Course. During the winter, the golf course is transformed into the Schroon Lake Ski Center, offering the perfect spot for downhill skiing, sledding, and snow tubing.

      Culture and the arts

Schroon Lake is known in the performing arts community for the Seagle Festival, an annual event featuring operas and musicals starred in by training singers and performers. Film and theater lovers will enjoy watching a movie or performance at the Strand Theater, which boasts an original Art Deco design.

      Shopping and dining

Schroon Lake is home to rustic pubs and restaurants offering a wide selection of wines, ciders, and other drinks, barbeques and grilled food, pizzas, and more. For shopping, the best place to go is The Towne Store, a vintage general store first opened in 1881.
