Brant Lake
Nestled in the southwestern area of the Adirondack Mountains, Brant Lake is a scenic hamlet in the New York town of Horicon, about a half-day drive from New York City. The community has long been a popular getaway for affluent families in the city and beyond. At its heart is its namesake lake, which offers a wonderful spot for fishing, boating, and paddling.
The area around the lake is also well known for hunting, camping, hiking, mountain biking, and other outdoor activities. And with its breathtaking natural beauty, Brant Lake is the perfect location for a scenic drive or an idyllic day just basking in the serenity of nature.
The lake
Brant Lake runs five miles through the hamlet, with crystal clear waters stocked with various fish species making it a true angler’s delight. In the winter, the frozen lake offers great opportunities for ice fishing, and the surrounding trail system is perfect for snowmobiling. There’s also a roped-in beach area for swimming in the summer.
Historical places
With a long history that dates back to the mid-1800s, Brant Lake boasts charming relics of its storied past, including beautiful historic homes along the lake. The Horicon Historical Society & Museum, housed in a nine room 1890s farmhouse, features photos and artifacts from the hamlet’s early days. Founded in 1916, the Brant Lake Camp for Boys is one of the oldest privately run camps in the United States. You’ll also find relics of the The Palisades Hotel built in 1884 within the present day Raymond Cottages, while historic churches like Horicon Baptist Church and Brant Lake Wesleyan Church continue to serve the community to this day.
