Lake Luzerne
The picturesque town of Lake Luzerne boasts outdoor adventures and breathtaking sceneries that one can only experience in the Adirondacks. The mighty Hudson River runs through the town, and along with four tranquil lakes, provides a host of exhilarating outdoor activities both on water and on land.
Since after the Civil War, this small town has been a favorite vacation spot of some of the wealthiest and most illustrious personalities in the country, including President Ulysses Grant. Today, Lake Luzerne remains a highly sought after getaway in upstate New York, as well as a welcoming residential community for retirees, young families, and everyone in between.
Water, water everywhere
The waters of the Hudson River runs over the Rockwell Falls and is joined by the Sacandaga Reservoir to create whitewater that’s perfect for rafting. On the more peaceful parts of the river, you can go tubing, fishing, boating, paddle boarding, and more.
The scenic Lake Luzerne provides plenty of fishing, kayaking, swimming, and boating opportunities, while the smaller lakes in the area – Second Lake, Stones Pond, and Third Lake – offer a more intimate and less crowded outdoor experience.
More outdoor activities
Lake Luzerne offers more by way of outdoor fun with such attractions as Adirondack Adventure Center, which features a treetop adventure course, zip lines, obstacle courses, and even freefall opportunities.
Equestrians and rodeo enthusiasts can go horseback riding or take lessons at the Mountain View Rockin B Ranch and the Double H Ranch. Throughout the summer, the town stages the Painted Pony Championship Rodeo, where you can watch or participate in a host of authentic western-style rodeo events.
Arts and culture
Lake Luzerne is not just about the outdoors; there are also plenty of art and cultural activities to immerse yourself in. Young budding musicians can hone their skills at the Luzerne Music Center, which also stages outstanding musical performances from local and guest artists throughout the year. If you want to learn a new craft, you can choose from a multitude of courses at The Adirondack Folk School.
